Gujarat Monitors 17 Lions Amidst Babesia Infection Concerns

In a recent update, no new suspected cases of Babesia infection in Asiatic lions have surfaced over the past three days, while seventeen lions remain under close observation, according to Gujarat's Forest and Environment Minister Arjunbhai Modhwadia.

The review follows the deaths of eight lion cubs, suspected to be linked to the infection. Ongoing measures include deworming and tick treatment for approximately 500 lions. This preventive campaign has been in action for three months, ensuring lions receive necessary medical attention to thwart endo- and ectoparasites. Modhwadia has reaffirmed that no lion fatalities have occurred due to the infection recently, highlighting the forest department's timely interventions.
