Boxing: Medics call for mandatory suspensions and scans to protect knocked out fighters

Ringside doctors in combat sports such as boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) have called for suspensions and examinations for fighters who get knocked out to ensure they have enough time to recover before they fight again. Many state athletic commissions in the United States already impose suspensions of 30, 60 or 90 days but Dr. John Neidecker of the Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) told Reuters that more needs to be done to protect fighters.

MLB notebook: Bauer could miss up to six weeks

Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer will miss four to six weeks due to the stress fracture in his right leg, manager Terry Francona told reporters prior to Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Bauer was hit in the leg last Saturday by a liner off the bat of Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. An MRI exam on Tuesday revealed the fracture, and he was placed on the disabled list.
