The Indiana Pacers announced the signing of head coach Nate McMillan to a multi-year extension on Tuesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports of the extension being finalized in early August said his new contract will run through the 2020-21 season.

McMillan, 54, was entering the final guaranteed year of his deal. He helped the Pacers to a 48-34 record and their second consecutive postseason appearance last season, despite the trading away of five-time All-Star Paul George. Indiana lost in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.

"I'm really proud of what Nate and our coaching staff have done," Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said in a statement. "Nate is very deserving of this extension. We have a wonderful culture and he has been a big part of implementing that culture. He's a dedicated leader, a very good coach and we're lucky to have him here with the Pacers."

McMillan is 90-74 in two years at the helm of the Pacers after spending three years as an assistant for Indiana.

"I'm very appreciative of Kevin and Mr. Simon (team owner, Herb Simon) for this show of faith in what we are doing," McMillan said in a statement. "Going back two years ago when I was hired, the trust Larry (Bird) and Mr. Simon had in myself and my staff meant a lot. Now with this extension, it's an affirmation of what we all -- front office, coaches, players, staff -- are trying to accomplish."

McMillan previously spent five years leading the then-Seattle SuperSonics (2000-05) and seven in charge of the Portland Trail Blazers (2005-12). He is 568-526 in 1,094 career regular-season games, and 17-28 in the postseason.
