Tadej Pogacar once again demonstrated his climbing dominance by winning the grueling 15th stage of the Tour de France on Bastille Day. His scorching ascent to the Plateau de Beille proved decisive.
The nearly 200-kilometer marathon stage featured four major climbs and an even more challenging ascent to Plateau de Beille. Pogacar attacked with 5 kilometers remaining during the final “hors catégorie” (beyond category) climb, solidifying his reputation as a master of the mountains.
It marked Pogacar's third stage win in this year's Tour and his seventh career stage win in the Pyrenees mountains. As temperatures soared to 35 degrees Celsius on the final climb, defending champion Jonas Vingegaard, with the help of his teammate Matteo Jorgenson, couldn't match Pogacar's relentless pace and finished over a minute behind. Vingegaard now trails Pogacar by 3 minutes and 9 seconds overall. Another top contender, Remco Evenepoel, also struggled to keep up.
Notably, Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay retained the best sprinter's green jersey. Monday serves as a rest day before the race continues with a flat Stage 16 between Gruissan and Nimes in southern France.
