Anush Agarwalla: The Equestrian Making Waves at the Paris Olympics

Anush Agarwalla, the first Indian equestrian to qualify for the individual dressage event at the Olympic Games, shares a remarkable bond with his horse, Sir Caramello. Training and competing together for over five years, Agarwalla emphasizes the importance of trust and harmony in their relationship as they prepare for the Paris Olympics.

It doesn't take long for Anush Agarwalla to gauge if his horse, Sir Caramello, is feeling nervous, excited, or happy. This 24-year-old is the first Indian equestrian to qualify for the individual dressage event at the Olympic Games, which begin on July 26.

As he prepares for Paris, Agarwalla is not overly concerned about the results but is focused on 'flying' with Sir Caramello in the arena. Their bond has been fortified by years of training, and Agarwalla values taking care of his horse even more than himself. 'Building relationships with horses is just like building relationships with people. It takes time and effort,' he explained.

Agarwalla moved to Germany at 17 with modest aspirations but soon developed a passion for dressage, leading to accolades such as an individual bronze and team gold at the 2018 Asian Games. He credits hard work and the trust built with Sir Caramello for his success. 'The horse is the main member of the team,' he emphasized, adding that dressage requires both power and elegance. As he focuses on his own performance for the upcoming Olympics, Agarwalla remains grounded and motivated by past defeats, seeking continuous improvement.
