Indian tennis stalwarts Leander Paes and Vijay Amritraj made history as the first Asian players to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in a dazzling ceremony on Saturday. Both players proudly hoisted the Indian Tricolour, celebrating their remarkable careers and contributions to the sport.

At 70, Amritraj, who once peaked at 18 in singles and 23 in doubles, boasts an impressive record of 13 doubles and 15 singles titles over a career spanning more than two decades. Paes, active from 1991 to 2021, achieved a peak singles ranking of 73 and world number one in doubles, with a commendable haul of one singles title and 54 doubles titles, winning each Grand Slam event.

Paes expressed his gratitude towards Amritraj for offering him opportunities in his early days. He said, "It is special to have two Indians inducted into the Hall of Fame." Amritraj reflected on his journey, recalling his mother's unwavering belief in his potential despite early health challenges.
