The Indian table tennis team is gearing up for a daunting challenge at the 2024 Paris Olympics, especially as the men’s team is set to face defending champions and four-time gold medalists China in the opening round. China's dominance in men's team events has been unshaken since the event was introduced in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Meanwhile, this marks the first time India has qualified for the team events in their Olympics history, according to Olympics.com.

The Indian women’s team has been drawn against Romania for the round of 16. Should they advance, they may face Rio Olympics silver medalists Germany in the second round. In the women's singles competition, Manika Batra will compete against 18-year-old Anna Hursey from Great Britain in the opening round. Batra, who reached the third round in Tokyo 2020, is making her third consecutive Olympic appearance since her debut in 2016.

Hursey, making her Olympic debut, is currently ranked 103rd in the world, significantly lower than Batra's 28th position. Another Indian hopeful, Sreeja Akula, the 16th seed in women's singles, will meet Sweden's Christina Kallberg in her round of 64 match. Kallberg exits early in Tokyo 2020, losing in the first round.

In the men’s singles, veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal will face Slovenia's Deni Kozul in his opening match, marking Kamal's fifth Olympic participation. Harmeet Desai will start his campaign on June 27 against Zaid Abo Yaman of Jordan in the preliminary round. These rounds include three matches for each men’s and women’s singles, with winners advancing to the round of 64. Desai could potentially meet world number five Felix Lebrun from France if he wins his preliminary matches.

The table tennis events at the Paris Olympics will run from July 27 to August 10 at South Paris Arena, featuring men's and women's singles, men's, women’s, and mixed doubles competitions.
