Bhiwani, a hotspot for boxing in India, is fervently backing its athletes as they gear up for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Known as 'mini Cuba,' Bhiwani has a rich boxing heritage, contributing significantly to India's sports success.

Jasmine Lamboria and Preeti Panwar, both residents of Bhiwani, will compete in the 57 kg and 54 kg weight categories respectively at the Paris Olympics. National boxer Nupur, aspiring to make her own Olympic debut, expressed unwavering confidence in Jasmine and Preeti, highlighting their rigorous preparation.

Nupur added, 'Vijender Singh is from Bhiwani. My late grandfather, Captain Hawa Singh, and Raj Kumar Sangwan also hail from here. Jasmine is also from Bhiwani, and I am confident she will secure a medal.' With over a dozen boxing academies, Bhiwani trains boxers from diverse backgrounds, both rural and urban.

Vijender Singh, who won India's inaugural boxing medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, hails from Bhiwani, earning accolades like the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Shri. Bhiwani, now dubbed 'Sports City,' has produced around 3,000 athletes of national and international repute.

Kuldeep Singh, senior coach at the SAI Boxing Club in Bhiwani, noted the high level of preparation provided by coaches, the government, and the Sports Authority of India. 'We have high hopes for medals,' Singh stated, lauding the rigorous training regimes both domestically and abroad.

Boxing traditions in Bhiwani trace back to the late Captain Hawa Singh, a heavyweight boxer, and Sandeep Golan, the first Bhiwani boxer to compete at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Young boxers like Neetu draw inspiration from local champions, aiming to emulate their success on the international stage. Neetu, a gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games and world champion in 2023, credited government support and training camps for her achievements, emphasizing their crucial role in her development.

The Indian government's sports policies, particularly those in Haryana, have been instrumental in nurturing athletic talent, offering substantial incentives and jobs for medalists. This support boosts participation, solidifying Bhiwani’s status as a cradle of boxing champions. (ANI)
