New head coach Gautam Gambhir and T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav marked a triumphant debut as India clinched a 43-run win against Sri Lanka in the opening match of their three-game series on Saturday.

After key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from T20 internationals following India's T20 World Cup victory, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill opened the innings, giving India a robust start. The team managed to post a competitive total despite quick wickets by Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Suryakumar Yadav’s swift fifty and crucial breakthroughs by Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel ensured India's bowling unit contained Sri Lanka to 170 runs, thanks to a stellar opening partnership from Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.

Gill, reflecting on the match, praised his partnership with Jaiswal, highlighting their complementary playing styles and straightforward communication as key factors in their success. India and Sri Lanka will face off in the second T20 match on Sunday.
