Oliver Oakes has been appointed as the principal of Renault-owned Alpine, set to commence his duties after the August break. The 36-year-old Briton, formerly a racer and karting champion, founded Hitech Grand Prix and is now the second youngest team boss in modern F1 history.

Red Bull's Christian Horner, the current longest-serving principal, started his tenure in January 2005 at age 31. Renault Group Chief Executive Luca de Meo expressed pleasure in welcoming Oakes, highlighting his potential for future success within the team. Oakes succeeds Bruno Famin, who held the position for a year.

Since 2021, Alpine has had several leadership changes, including Otmar Szafnauer and Laurent Rossi. Despite the team's storied past, they have struggled this season, acquiring only 11 points from 14 races. Former boss Flavio Briatore praised Oakes' leadership potential. Oakes is confident about driving success within the team.
