Shericka Jackson of Jamaica announced on Wednesday that she will not be participating in the 100 meters at the Olympic track events, a decision that removes a significant contender from the competition. Her withdrawal paves the way for Sha'Carri Richardson to face fewer challenges in the prestigious race.

Jackson has opted to concentrate solely on the 200 meters, which is traditionally her stronger event. Although she experienced a leg cramp earlier this month during an Olympic tune-up event in Hungary, her coach Stephen Francis assured the public that she appears to be in good condition.

The women's 100 meters opening round is set for Friday at Stade de France. Meanwhile, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will compete in her fifth and final Olympic Games, adding a historical note to the event as she is a two-time gold medalist in the 100 meters. Defending champion Elaine Thompson-Herah will not compete due to injuries, while Richardson enters as the reigning world champion in the event.
