Two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker has expressed immense satisfaction with her Paris Olympics campaign, stating that her achievements are shared by everyone who supported her throughout this journey. Bhaker narrowly missed a podium finish, securing the fourth spot in the women's 25m pistol shooting event. She came close to making history as the first Indian to secure three Olympic medals.
Bhaker was involved in a nail-biting shoot-off against former world-record holder Veronika Major of Hungary, with both athletes tied at 28 points. Prior to this, Bhaker clinched a medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event and followed it up with another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed-team event alongside Sarabjot Singh. The latter achievements were historic, marking India’s first-ever shooting medals in both categories.
Bhaker also became the first Indian athlete in the post-independence era to win two Olympic medals in a single Olympics, and the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. Reflecting on her accomplishments, she expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from various sports bodies and individuals, including the National Rifle Association of India, Sports Authority of India, Target Olympic Podium Scheme, and the Haryana government.
In a heartfelt post on X, Bhaker thanked her family, coach Jaspal Rana, and her well-wishers, acknowledging their crucial role in her success. “Winning two bronze medals is a dream come true. This achievement belongs to everyone who believed and supported me. Competing at the highest level for my country is a moment of immense pride and joy,” she wrote.
She concluded with gratitude for the continued support from her fans and acknowledged the bittersweet end to her campaign, expressing joy in contributing to Team India's success.
