Indian shooters Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala demonstrated commendable skills in the qualifications but fell short of entering the final of the 25m rapid fire men's pistol event at the Olympic Games on Sunday.
Despite excellent showings over two qualification stages, Vijayveer and Anish ended up with scores of 92 and 93 after the final 10 shots of the second rapid-fire stage, finishing ninth and 13th overall. Only the top six shooters proceed to the finals.
In the women's skeet competition, Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon concluded their run in 14th and 23rd places, respectively, following the qualification rounds. Maheshwari scored 118 across five series, and Raiza tallied 113. Like their male counterparts, only the top six move forward to the finals. Notably, Italy's 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist Diana Bacosi also did not advance, finishing in 15th place.
India still has hope in the shotgun competitions as Maheshwari will join Anant Jeet Singh Naruka in the mixed team skeet event, a new addition to the Olympic debut.
