South Africa is gearing up for this year's ICC Women's T20 World Cup by organizing a pair of training camps in Tshwane. The Proteas aim to surpass their runner-up finish in the previous edition, assembling most of their top players for a skills-based training camp this week, according to an ICC release.
From August 5 to 7, 13 players will attend the bowling camp, while 12 players will participate in the batting camp from August 6 to 8. Notably, captain Laura Wolvaardt and seasoned all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon are absent due to domestic commitments in England. However, South Africa still boasts the majority of its key performers, readying for the tournament in October.
South Africa has not won a T20I series since narrowly losing to Australia in last year's T20 World Cup final on home soil. Their latest series in India ended in a 1-1 draw after a rain-affected match in Chennai. Drawn in Group B, South Africa will face England (3 October), West Indies (5 October), Scotland (10 October), and Bangladesh (12 October), with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.
