Sri Lankan Spinner Faces Anti-Corruption Charges

Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama faces three counts of anti-corruption code breaches, cricket's global governing body announced Thursday. The 25-year-old allegedly failed to report a match-fixing approach and obstructed the investigation.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jayawickrama was approached to fix international matches and was asked to involve another player for the 2021 Lanka Premier League season. The spinner reportedly deleted messages related to the approach.

Jayawickrama, who debuted in April 2021 and last played for Sri Lanka in June 2022, has until August 6, 2024, to respond to the charges. Attempts to reach him or his representatives were unsuccessful.
