Algeria's Imane Khelif Clinches Gold in Women's Boxing at Paris 2024

Imane Khelif from Algeria triumphed against Yang Liu of China to win the gold medal in women's boxing (66kg) at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, held at Stade Roland-Garros on Friday, according to Olympics.com. This victory came after Khelif's previous appearances in Tokyo 2020, where she made history as the first female boxer from Algeria to compete in the Olympics. She had also secured gold at the 2022 Mediterranean Games and the 2023 Arab Games.
The 25-year-old boxer dominated the Paris 2024 final, winning with a unanimous decision and a score of 5-0. "I'm very happy. For eight years, this has been my dream, and now I'm the Olympic champion and gold medalist," Khelif expressed, according to Olympics.com.
Yang Liu, who also competed in Tokyo 2020 and won gold at the 2023 World Championships in the same weight category, acknowledged her opponent's superiority. "I tried my best, but my opponent was much better. She is an excellent fighter and very strong," Yang reflected.
Three days prior, on August 6, Janjaem Suwannapheng of Thailand and Chen Nien Chin of China each secured bronze medals in the same category.
