Vinesh Phogat's Disqualification: A Medal Deserved, A Lesson Learned

Legendary Indian hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh believes Vinesh Phogat deserves a medal after reaching the final of the women's 50kg wrestling competition in Paris but being disqualified for being 100 grams overweight. He feels her case should serve as a lesson for all Indian athletes to adhere strictly to Olympic rules.

PR Sreejesh, the legendary Indian hockey goalkeeper, stated that Vinesh Phogat deserves a medal after her disqualification from the women's 50kg wrestling final in Paris for being 100 grams overweight.

Sreejesh, a celebrated Olympian, could not imagine himself in Vinesh's place and expressed his sympathy for her situation. He recalled that Vinesh made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final.

Her disqualification came after she stunningly defeated world No. 1 Yui Susaki of Japan. Following the incident, Vinesh appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a joint silver medal. Sreejesh highlighted that this case serves as a crucial lesson for all Indian athletes to adhere strictly to Olympic rules.
