The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) returns this year with its most exhilarating season yet, featuring top Indian racers such as Akhil Rabindra and Nikhil Bohra, alongside Swiss star Neel Jani. These racers will compete in the Indian Racing League (IRL), a key component of this festival, as part of city-based teams. Marking its distinction as the world's first gender-neutral franchise-based league, IRL will see women racers competing equally alongside men in a thrilling five-round event.
Among the 24 drivers split into six teams are icons like Rabindra, who made history in 2019 by being the only Asian selection for Aston Martin’s Racing Academy, and Jani, the 2016 World Endurance Championship winner. Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Racing Promotion Pvt Ltd (RPPL), expressed his excitement for the season: ‘We are thrilled to welcome both returning and new racers for what promises to be the most exciting season of the Indian Racing Festival yet.' New teams and a night race add to the anticipation. British-South African Raoul Hyman and his teammate Sohil Shah return, eager to defend their 2023 Car Championship title.
This year’s six teams will each feature two Indian and two foreign racers, including one female. Returning female racers like Fabienne Wohlwend and Gabriel Jilkova will strive to replicate Sarah Moore’s 2023 victory as the league's first female race winner. With rapid single-seaters like the Wold Thunder GB08s reaching speeds of 240 kmph, fans can expect heart-pounding action. Rising stars like Ruhaan Alva, Shahan Ali Mohsin, and Danish debutant Julius Dinesen add to the excitement. The league kicks off on August 24-25 at the Madras International Circuit, with the first-ever night race on August 31-September 1 in Chennai.
