In a stunning conclusion to the Tour de France Femmes, Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma emerged victorious, claiming her first title after a gripping final stage at Alpe d’Huez. The race was a nail-biter as Niewiadoma fought off a determined challenge from defending champion Demi Vollering.
Vollering, representing SD-Worx-Protime, began the day in eighth position, trailing Niewiadoma by one minute and 15 seconds. Despite her impressive stage win, Vollering was unable to reclaim the yellow jersey, finishing just four seconds behind the Polish rider overall.
The day also saw Pauliena Rooijakkers take second place on the final stage, with Evita Muzic rounding out the podium. Vollering’s efforts were commendable, especially after she lost the yellow jersey in a crash during stage five, but it was Niewiadoma who ultimately triumphed, marking a significant milestone in her career.
