The SAFF U20 Championship 2024 is entering its critical phase as the India U20 men's national team prepares to clash with Bangladesh in the semi-finals. Scheduled for Monday, August 26, at 2:45 pm IST, the match will be held at the ANFA Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal. India has maintained a steady campaign, securing 1-0 wins against Bhutan and the Maldives, earning their spot in the semi-finals as Group B leaders. Bangladesh, the runners-up from the 2022 edition, pose a formidable challenge, according to an AIFF media release.

India head coach Ranjan Chaudhuri remarked on the eve of the game, "Bangladesh are traditionally one of the stronger teams in this competition, and we will have to bring our best to the table tomorrow (Monday)." Although the Blue Colts have managed just two goals, the least among the semi-finalists, Chaudhuri remains optimistic about his squad's performance.

"We are the only side that has not conceded a single goal yet. Our defensive play has been solid in the last two matches. However, we can't rest on our laurels—we need to maintain this level of defense going into the knockout stage. A strong defense gives our attackers a solid foundation to build upon," Chaudhuri emphasized. The team has been diligently working on their offensive game.

"We've had two productive training sessions since our last match, which have been crucial in honing our finishing skills. The boys created numerous opportunities against Bhutan and the Maldives, but our finishing needed improvement," the coach noted. The team will see the return of center-back Pramveer and playmaker Vanlalpeka Guite, who missed the last match due to suspensions. However, India will be without striker Monirul Molla, who is suspended for accumulating yellow cards.

"It's a relief to have players back from suspension, but losing another to suspension for the semi-final is challenging. Nevertheless, this is part and parcel of tournament football, and we must adapt," Chaudhuri stated. "Our squad of 23 is robust, and I trust every player to step up when called upon," the coach concluded in the release. (ANI)
