Pieter-Steph du Toit and Ruan Nortje will anchor South Africa's injury-stricken second row as they take on New Zealand at Ellis Park this Saturday. The world champions are grappling with significant absences, including Eben Etzebeth, necessitating Du Toit's shift from flanker and Nortje's third test appearance.
Head coach Rassie Erasmus acknowledged the challenges posed by multiple injuries but expressed confidence in Nortje's performance. 'Eben could have played if needed, but a fully fit player benefits us more,' said Erasmus.
Adding to the team's depth, Jasper Wiese returns from a six-game suspension. 'Jasper's energy and physicality will be crucial,' Erasmus noted. South Africa leads the Rugby Championship after two rounds, with New Zealand trailing in second place. The teams square off again on September 7 in Cape Town.
