Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is optimistic about making a comeback in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Shami resumed bowling practice at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium for over an hour, just after India's eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand.
The session, attended by assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and bowling coach Morne Morkel, marked Shami's efforts to recover from an ankle injury that has kept him out since the ODI World Cup 2023. Shami also participated in fielding drills, as he aims to attain full fitness.
Despite the progress, India's team management, led by captain Rohit Sharma, stresses caution over Shami's participation. Concerns over knee swelling have delayed his recovery, with Rohit emphasizing the need for Shami to be fully fit before joining the team for any future series, including the one against Australia.
