The FA Cup is set to host a revolution in football oversight, as semi-automated offside technology will be introduced in a number of fifth round matches played at Premier League stadiums next month, the FA announced Thursday.

Following extensive testing over the 2024-25 season, the technology faced delays initially scheduled for before Christmas. However, after resolving these issues, its introduction is now on the horizon for March fixtures. This system aims to streamline offside decision-making by employing optical player tracking and advanced virtual graphics.

In conjunction with this development, Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be utilized across all eight FA Cup fifth round games, a feature previously absent. An additional VAR element involves referees providing real-time explanations of their decisions for a more transparent experience for fans.
