Venkatesh Iyer Poised to Lead KKR in Upcoming IPL Season

Venkatesh Iyer, the India and Madhya Pradesh all-rounder, is ready to lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025. If chosen, he aims to bring leadership by example. Though inexperienced in captaincy, Iyer hopes to make a significant impact both on and off the field.

India and Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is poised to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, pending official confirmation. The team, defending champions, are set to start the tournament against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at Eden Gardens.

KKR is yet to announce a captain after releasing Shreyas Iyer, who will now lead Punjab Kings under coach Ricky Ponting. Venkatesh, re-acquired by KKR for Rs 23.75 crores, is among the top contenders for the leadership role, alongside Ajinkya Rahane.

Despite not having previous captaincy experience, Iyer is eager and confident about taking up the role. Citing the importance of leadership over titles, he says he aims to inspire through example, both on and off the field. Iyer has been impactful since his IPL debut in 2021 and is known for his versatile contribution as a batsman and bowler.
