The picturesque town of Gulmarg played host to the 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, which concluded on Wednesday. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the event's success and stressed the commitment to advancing the sports sector in Kashmir.

The Indian Army dominated the competition, collecting 18 medals, including seven golds, and maintaining their title from the previous edition. A commendable performance by Himachal Pradesh saw them earn the runner-up spot, ending with six golds. However, the Army's experience and strategic preparation gave them the edge.

This year's event, which included over 750 athletes from diverse regions, showcased India's growing interest in winter sports. Notably, states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu impressed despite lacking natural winter sports terrains. The games' success underscores the central government's efforts in promoting these niche sports nationwide.
