In a heartfelt announcement on social media, India's cricket captain Rohit Sharma has retired from Test cricket, closing a chapter on a distinguished career. His decision marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw him become a pivotal Test opener, despite early challenges in cementing his position.

Sharma debuted in November 2013 against the West Indies and played 67 Tests, amassing 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57. His record includes 12 centuries and a standout score of 212 against South Africa. Although initially criticized for his overseas performances, Sharma's Test career flourished as a consistent opener during the World Test Championship.

Despite a slump in form in 2024-25 and consecutive series losses under his captaincy, Sharma leaves a lasting legacy in Test cricket. As he steps away from the five-day format, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India in ODIs, where his experience and leadership remain invaluable.
