In a bold move, reigning Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan have firmly declined to release their players for the ongoing national camp, asserting that it is not obligatory outside a FIFA window. The club has accused the All India Football Federation (AIFF) of negligence regarding player welfare.
Preparations for next month's CAFA Nations Cup began on August 15 in Bengaluru, yet 13 players, including seven from Mohun Bagan, are missing. Initially absent due to Durand Cup commitments, the club cited priorities elsewhere, specifically their upcoming AFC Champions League fixture against Ahal FC on September 16.
Mohun Bagan's officials criticized AIFF for inadequate injury management, referencing captain Subhasish Bose's prolonged sidelining due to an injury sustained in an Asian Cup qualifier. The club stressed that without mandatory compensation during non-FIFA windows, they will prioritize players' health, thus withholding releases for the national camp.
