Cuba's Leyanis Perez Hernandez secured a dominant victory in the women's triple jump on Thursday, as Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela took an impressive bronze after a two-year hiatus from competition.
Perez Hernandez led the field with a stunning 14.85-meter jump on her first attempt, only surpassed by her own 14.93 earlier this year in March. She maintained her exceptional form, reaching 14.90 meters in the third round and 14.94 meters in both the fourth and sixth rounds.
Yulimar Rojas displayed remarkable resilience, marking her return to the arena with a 14.76-meter jump, initially good enough for silver until Thea Lafond eclipsed her with a 14.89-meter effort in the final round. Lafond celebrated becoming Dominica's first female world athletics medal winner with silver.
