In a prelude to the 2026 World Cup, Ecuador managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Mexico, thanks to a well-placed penalty by Jordy Alcivar in the first half. The match highlighted the two teams' current form as they prepare for the upcoming global event.
German Berterame opened the scoring for Mexico in the third minute, setting an early pace. However, Alcivar equalized in the 20th minute, leaving the match evenly poised for the remainder.
This result extends Mexico's winless run to four matches, having last claimed victory against an alternative U.S. team in the Gold Cup final. Looking ahead, Mexico aims to break this streak against Uruguay in November.
