In a move that has stirred significant debate, Pakistan cricket captain Shan Masood has defended the nation's policy of creating slow, spinning wickets for home tests. The strategy aims to bolster the performance of spin bowlers, but on Thursday it backfired as Pakistan suffered a loss to South Africa.
The approach, which has seen Pakistan win four out of the last six tests on home soil, has been criticized as it potentially hampers the development of fast bowlers, raising concerns about their ability to compete in away matches. Despite a strong start, Pakistan failed to close out the match, ultimately succumbing to an eight-wicket defeat at Rawalpindi.
While Pakistan managed to secure victories last October against England and had a drawn series with the West Indies, their recent performance against South Africa in conditions designed to favor them has called into question the efficacy and long-term implications of such a strategy. Masood highlighted the need for improvements in batting strategy and finishing innings.
