Karnataka Expands Opportunities for Athletes through Reservation

Karnataka is set to introduce a reservation scheme to bolster opportunities for athletes in the government workforce. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah disclosed the initiative in the Legislative Council, responding to queries from MLC Ivan D'Souza.
The policy allocates a 3% reservation in the Forest and Police Departments, along with 2% in other departments, aiming to incentivize sports persons. The government has already appointed 13 athletes reaching Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, and Asian Games podiums.
The Chief Minister emphasized the state's commitment to fostering sports like Kabaddi, ensuring broad support mechanisms are in place to nurture local talent.
