An inquiry committee investigating vandalism during an event at Salt Lake Stadium featuring Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi has proposed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The committee, led by Justice (Retd) Asim Kumar Roy, submitted its initial findings within three days.
Following instructions from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the committee was established to address unrest during Messi's December 13 visit to Kolkata. The report highlighted significant procedural violations, including the unauthorized entry of water bottles, prompting calls for an in-depth investigation.
The report advocates for departmental action against the stadium's management agency and suggests examining ticket refund issues. In response to the incident, police have already arrested several individuals, with further questioning of event organizers and associated agencies underway.
