In an unexpected turn of events, Bangladesh's cricketers boycotted Thursday's T20 league match, demanding the resignation of BCB director M Najmul Islam. The controversy erupted following his derogatory remarks and the ongoing standoff with India, compelling the Board to issue a show-cause notice to him.
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Naokhali Express and Chattogram Royals faced a delayed start as neither team showed up on Thursday. Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) President Mohammad Mithun emphasized the players' resolve to boycott the BPL despite assurances of action against Najmul.
The unrest began after Najmul dismissed concerns about player remuneration if Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup in India, citing security worries. The BCB assured support for players while urging them not to boycott matches, initiating formal disciplinary proceedings against Najmul.
