JSW Soorma Hockey Club celebrated their first victory in the 2026 Men's Hockey India League in style, decisively overcoming the HIL Governing Council with a 3-1 scoreline at Ranchi's Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium on Thursday.
The victory was spearheaded by a standout double from captain Harmanpreet Singh, who found the net in the 15th and 38th minutes. Gurjant Singh also contributed a pivotal goal in the 27th minute. Despite their loss, HIL GC remains among the top two on the points table, with Kane Russell scoring their lone goal, tying him with Tom Boon for league top scorers.
Soorma's assiduity shone from the onset, as they converted a penalty corner just before the first quarter ended thanks to Singh's formidable drag-flick skills. Although HIL GC captain Hardik Singh sought replies in the second quarter, his team fell short. Gurjant Singh's 27th-minute strike further compounded their woes, and a penalty had them down to 10 men as Russell received a green card in the third quarter. Nonetheless, they fought on, Russell reducing the deficit in the 44th minute, yet Soorma's commanding lead was unassailable.
