A transformative sports culture has emerged in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Speaking at the Eastern Zone Inter-University Women's Basketball Tournament in Gorakhpur, Adityanath emphasized the boost in sports infrastructure and government initiatives improving athletic participation and excellence.
Highlighting the significant changes since 2014, the Chief Minister pointed out that games were once neglected but now feature prominently on the national agenda. Initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India are forging a healthier and more resilient nation, he said, with sports being integral to India's development goals as laid out in the 'Viksit Bharat' vision.
With upcoming efforts such as India's 2036 Olympics bid, Adityanath urged universities to play a proactive role in nurturing talent. The state's investment is visible in the establishment of Meerut's first sports university, rapid infrastructure expansion, and incentivizing athletes, including direct government employment for medalists.
