This weekend, Baranica Elangovan, a pole vaulter hailing from Tamil Nadu, made waves at the Indian Indoor Open Combined Events. She broke her own national record by clearing an impressive 4.23 meters.

Elangovan's successful attempt not only set a new milestone in Indian athletics but also highlighted the burgeoning talent in the sport. Her previous record stood at 4.22 meters, achieved at the National Indoor Championships in March.

Additional winners at the event included N Thowfeeq from Trivandrum, who claimed gold in the men's heptathlon, tallying a score of 5350, and Purnima Hembram from Odisha, who triumphed in the women’s pentathlon with 3835 points.
