White Sox call up Frare, add Minaya
The Chicago White Sox revamped their bullpen on Sunday, calling up lefty reliever Caleb Frare and purchasing the contract of right-hander Juan Minaya, both of Triple-A Charlotte. Right-handers Carson Fulmer and Jose Ruiz were optioned to Charlotte following Saturday's 15-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
Minaya was a key part of the White Sox bullpen last season, appearing in 52 games and going 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA and striking out 58 in 46 2/3 innings. Frare started the season with the White Sox, but was sent down after posting a 6.75 ERA over four appearances.
The White Sox are looking to salvage a series split in Sunday's finale. Chicago also moved outfielder Jon Jay to the 60-day injured list. Jay is recovering from a right hip strain suffered in March and will be eligible to return on May 27.
