Boxer Maxim Dadashev has died after a brutal match with Subriel Ahmed Matías Matthew that left him with brain damage, according to media reports.
The Russian boxer was put in a medically induced coma after undergoing brain surgery following his loss to Subriel Matias in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight title eliminator match on Friday night.
The situation became started looking so critical that his trainer, former world champion Buddy McGirt, threw in the towel after the 11th round and it was believed that the move actually helped the boxer. But the 28-year-old reportedly suffered a subdural hematoma and collapsed in front of the fans. He was not able to walk out of the ring. He reportedly vomited and lost consciousness as his team attempted to carry him backstage.
This is a mark of a great trainer, one that knows his warrior at war 🥊 a trainer has to love his fighter enough to make a crucial call sometimes saving him from his very self. Great call Buddy @buddymcgirtboxing prayers up for this young warrior #speedyrecovery #toughsport 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/cKljvTKOgt

After the fight, McGirt said: "God forbid, one punch as you know can change a whole guy's life and I wasn't going to let that happen. "So I'd rather have them be mad at me for a day or two then to be mad at me for the rest of their life."
He had 14 fights in a professional ring and scored 13 victories –including 11 by KO. The fighter was a silver and two-time bronze medalist in the championships of Russia. Dadashev had moved from Russia to the US to further his boxing career, moving in with his family to Oxnard, California.
