Golf: Merritt's eagle on 18 gives him lead at Barracuda Championship
Troy Merritt sank a 53-foot eagle putt on the par-five 18th to move into the lead with 37 points after three rounds of play at the Barracuda Championship in Reno on Saturday. Merritt, who also had an eagle on the par-five second and four birdies on the back nine, had 18 points total in his round and sits two points clear of fellow American Robert Streb at the event played under the modified Stableford format.
Rugby: U.S. Eagles crush Canada at Pacific Nations Cup
The United States crushed Canada 47-19 in a Pacific Nations Cup clash in Colorado on Saturday, the Eagles' final home game before the Rugby World Cup in September. Hooker Dylan Fawsitt got the scoring started for the Eagles when he made it over the try line on the back of the rolling maul to the delight of the sell-out crowd at Infinity Park in Glendale.

Next year's schedule will feature a longer weekend and shorter Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races, but considerably more racing action at the 2.5-mile triangular track. For the first time, NASCAR will run two points-paying Cup races on the same weekend, culminating in a 350-miler on Sunday, June 28. The day before, Cup drivers will run their first race of the weekend, with a length still to be determined.

Swimming Australia on Sunday defended their concealment of Shayna Jack's positive doping test while one of her teammates was conducting a high profile public campaign against China's Sun Yang at the world championships. Jack was withdrawn from the Australia squad ahead of the championships in Gwangju with the swimmer and Swimming Australia (SA) initially saying it was for personal reasons.
Athletics: Felix misses U.S. team in 400, Kendricks soars in pole vault
Allyson Felix missed out on an individual national team spot for the first time as a professional and Sam Kendricks became the third highest pole vaulter of all-time at the U.S. national championships on Saturday. Only French world record holder Renaud Lavillenie and former holder Sergey Bubka have ever jumped higher than the 6.06 meters Kendricks managed at an event that is doubling as the U.S. trials for the world championships.
NFL notebook: Bengals WR Green leaves practice with injury
Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green was carted off the practice field Saturday after suffering an injury to his lower left leg. Green came down awkwardly during a 7-on-7 drill, with his left foot appearing to get trapped underneath cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, who fell after leaping to knock away a pass. Medical staff attended to Green on a sideline bench, checking his left foot, before he walked on his own power to the cart that took him off the field.
MLB notebook: Twins add bullpen help with Romo
The Minnesota Twins acquired right-handed reliever Sergio Romo in a trade with the Miami Marlins on Saturday. In addition to Romo, the Twins will receive minor league righty Chris Vallimont and a player to be named later. The Marlins acquired minor league first baseman Lewin Diaz in the deal.
Cycling: Bernal all but wraps up maiden Colombian Tour title
Climbing phenomenon Egan Bernal was poised to become the first Colombian to win the Tour de France and the youngest race champion in 110 years when he retained the overall lead after Saturday's 20th stage, a 59-km ride from Albertville. The Team Ineos rider, 22, finished fourth in the stage won by 2014 champion Vicenzo Nibali, the only man to interrupt the British outfit's reign on the Tour since 2012.
Swimming: Hosszu, Seto on course for medley double
Hungary's Katinka Hosszu moved a step closer to becoming the first woman to win five world titles in a single event after qualifying fastest for the 400 meters individual medley in Sunday's heats. The "Iron Lady", who won her first gold medal in the event a decade ago in Rome, came home in 4:35.40, ahead of Japan's Yu Ohashi and China's Ye Shiwen.
