Google is rolling out Nearby Share Beta for Windows in the U.S. and select regions globally. With Nearby Share, you can easily and quickly share images, videos, documents, and more between your Windows computers and Android devices.

Nearby Share Beta for Windows PCs is available in most countries except Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Donbass, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

"In 2020, we launched Nearby Share as a fast and simple way to share files across your own devices and with friends who are close by. Today, we're expanding Nearby Share to Windows as a beta in select regions, so even more of your devices can work better together," Priya Samnerkar, Senior Product Manager, Android, wrote in blog post.

To set up Nearby Share Beta for Windows, follow these steps:

  • Download and install Nearby Share Beta onto your Windows device.
  • Open the app and sign in.
  • Under "Visible to others as", choose your device name.
  • Under "Receiving", choose who can share with you.
  • Select Done.

Once the setup is done, you can start sending files from your PC to a nearby Android device:

  • Open the Nearby Share Beta app on your Windows PC.
  • Select and drag a file or files into the app window.
  • Select the device you want to share your file with.
  • Select Share.
  • Once the receiver confirms the share, your file is sent.

In case, you can’t drag and drop the file:

  • Right-click on the file you want to share.
  • Select Send with Nearby Share Beta.
  • Select which Android devices you want to share with from the list that pops up.

It is worth mentioning that if both devices are logged into the same Google account, file transfers are automatically accepted, even if your screen is off.
