Philippines and China Agree to Ease Tensions in South China Sea

The Philippines and China have reached a mutual understanding to ease tensions at a disputed shoal in the South China Sea, according to a senior Philippine security official on Wednesday.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano stated, 'Both sides agreed that the tension will be reduced at Ayungin shoal to prevent skirmishes and any incidents that may cause injury or harm to soldiers or anyone.' The Ayungin shoal, known internationally as Second Thomas Shoal, has been a flashpoint for conflict over the past year.

This development marks a significant step toward maintaining peace and stability in the region.
