Qualcomm Revolutionizes 5G Affordability with Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 Launch in India

Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 chipset in India, aimed at making 5G smartphones more accessible, with prices set below Rs 8,000. The chipset is designed for entry-level phones and will initially be adopted by major OEMs. Qualcomm also launched the Snapdragon X Series for AI PCs.

American chipmaker Qualcomm announced on Tuesday the launch of the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 chipset, aimed at making 5G smartphones more affordable and accessible in India. The company claims this new chipset will enable 5G smartphones to be priced below Rs 8,000.

The Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 is designed for entry-level handsets, targeting over 600 million potential smartphone users in India. Qualcomm officials mentioned at the 'Snapdragon for India' event that the chipset will bring gigabit 5G smartphone prices below USD 99, marking a significant reduction from the current lowest price of Rs 9,999.

Major OEMs like Xiaomi are expected to initially adopt the chipset, with the first commercial device due by year's end. Qualcomm is in discussions with other established and new OEMs. Savi Soin, President of Qualcomm India, emphasized the importance of affordable 5G solutions in furthering India's digital transformation and bridging the digital divide.
