Foxconn Eyes Strategic Partnership with Nissan: Cooperation Over Acquisition

In a statement on Wednesday, the chairman of Taiwan's Foxconn emphasized the company's intention to pursue collaboration, rather than acquisition, with Japan's Nissan. This statement comes in the wake of Nissan's stalled merger discussions with Honda, leaving the automaker at a strategic crossroads.

Nissan recently faced potential changes within the automotive sector, which is increasingly competitive with the rise of electric vehicle companies such as China's BYD. Foxconn, recognized as the world's largest electronics contractor and a key Apple supplier, has expressed interest in partnering with new entrants in the auto industry.

Chairman Young Liu, speaking at Foxconn's headquarters, asserted that buying Nissan is not the company's aim; rather, cooperation is preferred. Foxconn is also in talks with Renault, given its investment in Nissan. Despite the announcement, both Nissan and Renault have opted not to comment on these developments.
