Reliance Jio has announced the launch of JioTele OS, heralded as the nation's first operating system for smart televisions. This innovation aims to meet the increasing demand for smart TVs in India, providing manufacturers the means to deliver advanced features at a reasonable cost, according to the company's statement.
Billed as a 'next-generation platform,' JioTele OS promises to revolutionize the entertainment landscape, offering a premium and content-rich experience tailored to Indian viewers. The smart TVs, backed by this new OS, are set to be available from February 21, 2025, with partnerships including brands like Thomson, Kodak, BPL, and JVC.
JioTele OS stands as a direct competitor to established platforms like Google's Android TV and Samsung's Tizen, targeting India's 35 million connected TV households. With support for AI-driven recommendations and comprehensive regional content, Jio anticipates substantial growth in the smart TV market, especially in light of recent policy changes that could lower production costs.
