Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, Vice Chief of Air Staff, has advised private defense sector firms to specialize in specific areas of expertise, rather than diversifying their focus. Speaking at a defense seminar, he underscored the need for the industry to develop niche capabilities that significantly contribute to India's strategic independence.
The Air Marshal highlighted the importance of upgrading current aircraft to accommodate next-generation weapons, emphasizing man-unmanned teaming and AI. He cited successful examples from Europe and emphasized the role of big companies in becoming integration houses rather than developing technologies independently.
Discussing the potential of drone technology, Tiwari noted India's advantage due to geopolitical stability and human capital. He stressed the importance of collaboration with academia, leveraging initiatives like iDEX and TDF, and cultivating 'aatmanirbharta,' aiming for a defense industry capable of self-reliance and global competitiveness.
