India-US Trade Deal: A Boost for Tech and Semiconductor Ecosystem

The recently concluded India-US trade deal is poised to significantly impact India's electronics, semiconductor, and technology ecosystem. Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and IESA, highlighted how the agreement would accelerate design and manufacturing while bolstering value addition across various sectors. Such advancements are projected to position India as a reliable partner in the global technology chain.

As part of the deal, the United States will reduce a reciprocal tariff on Indian goods from 25% to 18%, a move hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This tariff reduction signals a strengthened bilateral relationship and promises increased market access and technological collaboration.

Furthermore, Chandak emphasized that the agreement, complemented by iCET and TRUST initiatives, would enhance trusted supply chains. By deepening collaborative efforts across AI, data centers, and advanced manufacturing, the accord aims to create numerous high-skill jobs and significantly boost the electronics and semiconductor sectors.
