Roblox Tightens Security: New Social Media Curbs for Indonesian Youth

Roblox is taking action to comply with Indonesia's social media restrictions for players under 16. Key measures include mandatory age verification through facial scanning, the introduction of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, and screen time controls for parents. These moves align with new Indonesian regulations on social media safety.

Roblox, a leading videogame platform, is responding to Indonesian social media regulations by introducing stringent measures for users under 16. The initiative was announced by the country's communications minister.

Among the steps is mandatory age verification via facial scanning for users under 16. Without verification, the platform's chat feature will be disabled automatically. Roblox's VP, Nicky Jackson Colaco, described the measures as some of the strictest protections globally.

Further actions include the rollout of Roblox Kids for ages 5 to 12, which excludes chat features, and Roblox Select for ages 13 to 15, offering restricted chat options. Roblox will auto-transition 23 million Indonesian accounts into these categories, ensuring compliance with local laws.
