UN officially marks April 21 as World Creativity and Innovation Day

The UN has termed it as "highly transformative sector of the world economy in terms of income generation, job creation and export earnings."

United Nations has declared April 21 as the World Creativity and Innovation Day after seventeen years and is being celebrated for the first time today. The day is marked as “ well positioned to encourage creative multidisciplinary thinking to help us achieve the sustainable future we want," as said by the UN.

According to the UN, innovation and creativity are now becoming the true wealth of any nation at both the levels; individual and group.

It also considers creative economy –which includes "audiovisual products, design, new media, performing arts, publishing and visual arts".  The UN has termed it as "highly transformative sector of the world economy in terms of income generation, job creation and export earnings."

Culture as an important tool for sustainable development represents identity, innovation and creativity. World Creativity and Innovation Day week starts on the birth anniversary of the most famous creative person known on the planet: Leonardo da Vinci. According to WCID’s official website, “On April 27, 2017, the United Nations resolved to include World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21, as a Day of Observance to encourage people to use creativity in problem-solving."
