Air India Unveils Massive Fleet Overhaul in Five-Year Transformation Plan

Air India, under the leadership of CEO Campbell Wilson, is set to retrofit over 100 planes and has ordered approximately 25,000 seats. This is part of a broader five-year transformation plan aimed at improving integration, growth, and customer experience, merging AIX Connect and Vistara with Air India.

Air India, under the stewardship of CEO Campbell Wilson, has announced an ambitious plan to retrofit more than 100 aircraft, including 40 wide-body planes, adding around 25,000 new seats. On Wednesday at the CAPA India Aviation Summit, Wilson highlighted the airline's dedication to integration, growth, and customer experience amidst a comprehensive transformation effort.

The overhaul is part of a five-year transformation plan, with Tata Group consolidating its aviation assets, merging AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) with Air India Express, and Vistara with Air India. 'We have immense flexibility, whether in full or low-cost services, and we are in a strong position,' stated Wilson.

Addressing industry costs, Wilson noted that while airfares have lagged behind overall inflation, the new Air India is attracting interest and potential partnerships. 'People (airlines) now want to dance with us,' he remarked, emphasizing the ongoing and upcoming changes. He also called for a pragmatic approach to bilateral aviation rights.
