India's June Export Surge Amid Global Trade Challenges

India's merchandise exports in June surged by 2.56% to reach USD 35.2 billion, even as the global trade environment posed significant challenges, leading to a widened trade deficit of USD 20.98 billion, according to government data released on Monday.
Imports saw a 5% rise to USD 56.18 billion in June, driven predominantly by increased inbound shipments of crude oil, pulses, and electronic goods. The trade gap in June 2023 stood at USD 19.19 billion.
Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal disclosed that if the current export trend persists, India's total goods and services exports for this fiscal year are projected to surpass USD 800 billion. From April to June 2024-25, India exported USD 200 billion worth of goods and services.
